"PITBULL TO PLEAD NOT GUILTY ON DUI CHARGES"

By Chris Harris, with additional reporting by Jayson Rodriguez of MTV News

According to an arrest report obtained by MTV News, Pitbull was arrested in Miami early Friday morning and booked on a driving while under the influence charge. The 26-year-old rapper was released from county jail after posting a $1,000 bond, according to The Miami-Herald. He plans to plead not guilty to the charges, according to a statement from his lawyer.

The Miami-Dade Police Department claims Pitbull (born: Armando C. Perez) was driving a silver Mercedes-Benz at 93 mph when he passed a marked police cruiser at around 3 a.m. The car was stopped, and Pitbull was instructed to exit the vehicle and step away from it. He failed to respond, the report reads, and officers "became concerned for [their] safety." The commands were repeated three times before Pitbull allegedly asked, "Come on, papo — what's up?" ("Papo" is slang for "junior.")

According to the arrest report, officers tried to explain to Pitbull why his car was stopped, at which point the rapper informed them that "this ain't nothing," and they "were wasting their time." Police detected a strong odor of alcohol over the gum Pitbull was chewing, the report claims, and noticed his eyes were bloodshot and watery. His speech was also slurred, police said. The rapper was asked if he'd been drinking and submitted to field sobriety tests. He reportedly failed them, and, as he was being arrested, again told police, "This is a big waste of your time, papo."

Pitbull was taken into custody and later refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test, police said. (continue)
